CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Richview Cowboys boys basketball team has advanced to the TSSAA State Final Four after defeating Station Camp and Mount Juliet on Thursday and Saturday, respectively.
The Cowboys will face a to-be-determined team from the Knoxville area on Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Stewarts Creek High School in the state semifinal. They’re the first team to advance to state since both Kenwood and Richview made it in 2020-21.
“It’s very gratifying. I’m so happy for my guys and the opportunity that lays before us,” said Cowboys head coach Josh Bucholz. “This is a special group, and it’s a testament to the culture that has been built by teams at Richview before this year. I remember making it out of the district the first time and losing in sectionals, sometimes by 30 points. It just shows the growth of the program over my years as a coach. It has been a joint effort from coaches and players to reach this level of success. Sustained success is always a goal, and this year everything seems to be coming together for us.”
The Cowboys are now undefeated in postseason play and are only two wins away from a state title. To get there, they’ve played a selfless brand of basketball, where everyone has bought into there roles.
“I think we’ve played a team-oriented style of basketball,” said Bucholz. “Everyone understands, performs and stars in their role. Our energy has been outstanding in every game. I think we have controlled the tempo of the game well on both sides of the ball. We have a team that plays together well and puts the collective group above the individual. We are very competitive, and we want to get better and continue to grow as the season continues.”
