CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – A sports website is reporting that Austin Peay State University (APSU) has narrowed the field of candidates for head football coach down to seven.

Footballscoop.com says: “Per source, Sam Houston State defensive coordinator Mike Collins has removed himself from the process (we expect Collins to become the new defensive coordinator at ULM). We hear Stephen F. Austin defensive coordinator Matt Williamson has also been invited to campus for a formal interview in addition to the other six mentioned below.

Per source, Austin Peay has six other candidates that have / are interviewing in person for the head job: Shane Day (assistant OL – Washington Redskins), Will Healy (WRs – Chattanooga), Joshua Eargle (HC at East Texas Baptist), Jed Stugart (HC at Sioux Falls), Ron Lambert (HC at Rossview HS) and Walt Wells (OL – Eastern Kentucky).”

Director of APSU Sports Information Brad Kirtley said the department is not releasing names at this time and could not confirm this list.

Former head football coach Kirby Cannon was relieved of his duties last month, nine days after Austin Peay concluded the 2015 season with an 0-11 record.
