CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A Clarksville Police officer has been arrested by the TBI on a charges that he abused his 5-month-old baby.
On Thursday, at the request of District Attorney General Robert Nash, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation began investigating allegations of child abuse involving Officer Isaac Barretto. Agents determined that Barretto was responsible for injuries that resulted in the hospitalization of his baby, according to a TBI news release.
On Friday, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Barretto, 26, charging him with one count of child abuse, the release said. He was booked into the Montgomery County Jail.
Barretto joined CPD in November 2023, according to Clarksville Now archives.
Clarksville Now reached out to CPD, and spokesman Officer Scott Beaubien said Monday that administrative leave is standard during any internal or TBI investigation of an officer.
“The Clarksville Police Department is committed to constitutional policing – ensuring that all actions we take uphold individual rights and freedoms, and ensuring fair and impartial treatment of all,” CPD said in a statement.
CPD conducted the initial investigation, the statement said. For the sake of transparency, the DA and TBI were brought in “to conduct a thorough and independent investigation since it involved one of our officers,” the statement said. “In accordance with departmental policy, we are fully cooperating with the TBI as they continue their work on behalf of the District Attorney.”
