CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Police were in a standoff Thursday night with a man who fired gunshots inside a home in northwest Clarksville.

At about 7:11 p.m., officers responded to a report of a domestic incident on Jewel Drive, according to Clarksville Police spokesman Scott Beaubien. As officers investigated, the situation escalated with additional reports that the man had sent threatening text messages suggesting a violent confrontation with police. A caller also reported hearing a gunshot from inside the residence.

Officers established a perimeter around the house and began efforts to peacefully de-escalate the situation. Although the man initially refused to answer his phone, officers were eventually able to make contact. The man said he had fired the gunshot to ensure his firearm was functioning properly.

Officers believe he is alone in the home. Negotiators continue working toward a safe and peaceful resolution, Beaubien said. Roadways in the immediate area have been shut down, and nearby residents are asked to remain inside until the situation has been resolved.
