CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Planters Bank Hilldale Gallery located at 1971 Madison Street is currently featuring the vivid works of local artist Larry Martin, which will be on display throughout the month of July.

Martin began his time as an artist at the age of 65 after working in the military, linguistics, and financial management. He is also an accomplished musician, playing in various bands and working as a church organist for more than 60 years.

Though Martin has lived in the Far East, California, and Maryland, he chose to retire in Tennessee, where he graduated from Austin Peay State University with a B.S. Business Administration. He also studied Chinese Mandarin through the Defense Language Institute and Real Estate Management at Columbia Community College.

Martin creates a variety of jazz paintings, florals, abstracts, and landscapes. His tools are oil and acrylic paint on canvas and watercolor paint on archival paper.

In the ten years he has worked as an artist, Martin has had his paintings shown in Cambridge University Research Magazine, at the University of Kent, in an international magazine from Seoul, Korea, and as the cover of a law book published by the Oxford University Press. His local exhibits include a solo show at the F&M Bank Franklin Room in Clarksville, a solo show at the Customs House Museum in Clarksville, a solo show at the “Train Station” in Clarksville, and group shows at the Gordon Jewish Center in Nashville for the Williamson County Arts Council in Franklin.

The Hilldale Gallery exhibit rotates the First Thursday of each month and is open to the public during regular bank hours: 8:30a.m.-4:00p.m., Monday-Thursday, and 8:30a.m.-5:30p.m., Friday. Both Martin’s original paintings, as well as smaller sized prints, will be for available for sale.
