CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – A standpipe that controls the water level at Dunbar Cave’s Swan Lake failed on Dec. 26.

“There is no conclusive cause at this point. Our staff are working to resolve the problem and the issue should not affect the visitor experience at this time,” Kim Schofinski with the state parks department said.

A tweet from the Friends of Dunbar Cave said the lake would drain itself, but officials did not release any information about the water levels.

Local and state officials celebrated completion of one of the final stages of a major restoration project at the lake in September of this year. The dam and spillway were repaired, which allowed the level of the lake to be raised.

The area had been in a state of disrepair for approximately three years prior to the restoration.

The Friends of Dunbar Cave, a nonprofit group, had been instrumental in the project’s success.
