CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) The American Cancer Society in Clarksville-Montgomery County celebrated the holidays Sunday with the 28th Annual Love Lights a Tree ceremony at Tennova Healthcare in Clarksville.
Love Lights a Tree honors and remembers those who have lost their lives to cancer or have suffered from the disease. The ceremony to light the tree is held each year on the first Sunday in December and is also a fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.
Local artist, Lynne Griffey serves as the Chairperson for the Love Lights a Tree campaign in Clarksville-Montgomery County. The fundraising effort works with lights purchased in honor of or in memory of a loved one affected by cancer. Individual lights are $5 and a strand of lights is $100.
Each year an honorary chairperson is chosen to light the tree that can be found on the front lawn near the Emergency Entrance of Tennova Healthcare. This year’s honorary chairperson is Mike Reilly who has been battling cancer and shares his determination to help others fighting the same battle.
Servella Terry, wife of the late Pastor Jimmy Terry, spoke to those gathered at the event and encouraged everyone to continue with his message in the signs he placed around the community saying, “Christmas is all about Jesus.” Pastor Terry was the 2016 honorary chair person for Love Lights a tree and passed away from cancer in June of this year.
Students from Immaculate Conception School Choir performed Christmas Carols along with the schools Music and Performing Arts Director, John Nicolosi.
