CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Music flowed through the Crow Community Center Saturday evening as the Clarksville Association for Down Syndrome (CADS) held its Kickin’ It With CADS party.
Young adults and teens with Down Syndrome and other special needs enjoyed peer conversations, games, pizza and snacks. DJ Usha, provided music as they danced to the latest tunes.
CADS is a 100-percent volunteer organization, created to support families and provide resources and networking for individuals with Down Syndrome.
Kickin it with CADS is a place for members and others in the community to hang out on a Saturday night.
“It builds camaraderie to have a place to hangout,” said Tricia Hanna, executive director of CADS. “We appreciate the Clarksville Parks and Recreations Department for allowing us to use their facility.”
Vicki Hildreth, a CADS board member whose daughter Katie has Down Syndrome, said the event is beneficial for all who attend.
“It puts you in a place to share resources. It’s not always easy to find answers to your questions,” Hildreth said.
CADS hopes to make the event a monthly occurrence.
World Down Syndrome Day is March 21 and CADS will be hosting a special event at the Clarksville Downtown Commons.
Free Golly G’s ice cream created especially for the event, with a yellow and blue theme, will be served March 21.
