CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- Northwest High School’s Abby Schilling was recently selected to be a member of the Roane State Lady Raiders Softball Team.

Abby is a four-year member of the Lady Viking’s Softball Team. Abby began her softball career at age 4 and has played softball locally for travel softball teams, which include Kaos, Vengence, and Revolution Fast Pitch. She has been coached by a host of parents in the Clarksville area throughout her travel-ball career, most notably Timmy Mann.

In addition to her membership on the Lady Vikings Softball Team, she also currently plays travel ball for Wicked, which is coached by Keith Hyatt. She joined Northwest’s squad as a freshman and has consistently been a starter for the Lady Vikings throughout the past 3 years while seeing time in many positions, most often third baseman and catcher, but also has filled in as a utility player in any time her team needed.

As a junior, she was chosen by her teammates and coaches as a team captain and boasted a .441 batting average with 3 home runs and 33 RBIs on the season.

When asked about her experiences as a Lady Viking, Abby replied, “My experience as a Lady Viking has taught me how to be a leader and a team player.”

In addition to being a member of the softball team at NWHS, Abby also earned a Varsity letter on the Volleyball team for 4 years, has been a member of the International Thespian Society for 2 years, is a representative for her Senior Class in Associated Student Government, and has been a member of the NWHS Health Science Academy since her Freshman year. Abby has successfully completed 1AP course and is currently enrolled in two more, all in addition to her normal course-load. Abby currently holds a 3.6 GPA.

NWHS Athletic Director, Jessica Peppard, stated, “Northwest is so proud of Abby and her accomplishments. She is a model student-athlete, which is evident from her 3.6 GPA all while taking some of the toughest classes we offer. She is also a member of the Health Science Academy and is a multi-sport athlete. She works hard and does not accept mediocrity. I anticipate seeing Abby accomplishing great things in her future and wish her the best of luck.”

Northwest Softball Head Coach, Kayla Estep, stated, “I am excited for Abby and her pursuit of playing softball at the next level. Roane State is getting a gem of an athlete and young lady in Abby. She definitely holds the characteristics necessary to excel in the collegiate softball world. I know that Abby’s hardworking, driven, and humorous personality will help propel her to go far both in college softball, in her studies, and in life. Abby’s work ethic on the field, advanced skill set, a commitment to her team will be assets to her teammates and coaches at Roane State. On behalf of my coaching staff and Abby’s teammates, we truly wish her all the very best and are truly proud to call her a Lady Viking. We are looking forward to her leadership throughout her senior year, as well as to hearing of her sure successes at Roane State.

Abby says she is “looking forward to furthering my skills as a softball player at the collegiate level.”
