CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- (CLARKSVILLENOW) Northwest High School’s Athletic Department is pleased to share that Javon Grier has committed to play baseball at Jackson State Community College.

Javon signed his commitment paperwork in a signing ceremony held November 29, 2017 at Northwest High School. Javon is a four-year member of the Vikings Baseball Team and has served in a variety of roles while on the team, to include pitcher, first baseman, and third baseman. Last year, Javon had 461 batting average with 27 RBIs, three home runs and 10/12 for stolen bases.

Northwest Athletic Director, Jessica Peppard, stated, “Northwest is incredibly proud of Javon and his hard work both in the classroom and on the field. Javon is a leader among his peers, and while he will be missed at Northwest, we are excited to see what his future holds for him at the next level.”

While at the signing ceremony, Jackson State Baseball Coach, Tyson Malik, commented “We are very excited to have Javon…he seems like a great kid, with a good work ethic, and we really liked that about him. On the baseball field, he fits into what we like to do in our program. I think he can be in the middle of the lineup for us and possibly play multiple positions. Obviously, I think first base is his best position, but he can possibly be at third base or in the outfield if need be. We are really excited because I think he can be a help to us offensively.”

Northwest High School’s Baseball Coach, Chris Benne, shared “I am excited for Javon and his family. Javon has worked his whole life for this moment, and he has handled this whole process with class and maturity. Coach Malik and Jackson State are getting a great player.”
