CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –Northeast High boys’ basketball coach Sam Young has resigned after leading the Eagles for four years.
Young announced on Twitter that he is stepping down effective immediately, so he can spend more time with his family as they prepare their new family business.
“I cannot say that I am done coaching, as basketball/coaching is in my blood,” Young said on his social media page. “I want to take the time to thank some important people in this process. A special thanks to my wife and family for their love and support. Thanks to the NEHS administration for allowing me to lead the program for the past four seasons. I thank the student-athletes putting in the time and commitment to being an Eagle.
“I couldn’t have done it without my assistant coaches; they always worked hard to help me create the best for the program for the players. Finally, thank you to the parents, school employees and Northeast community. I have felt support by local businesses, faculty and alumni,” Young said.
“I wish the Northeast Basketball Program much success in the future. I hope they continue to build upon the 40+ years of rich traditions of coaches, as I continued during my tenure there. I know the Eagles will soar.”
As the year continues, Northeast Athletics will be in search of a new head football coach, and now a new boys’ basketball coach.
