CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Northeast High School’s boys’ basketball coach Al Cooper has been “placed at an alternative work site” pending an investigation by the Clarksville Police Department, Elise Shelton, Chief Communications Officer for CMCSS, confirmed Monday.

Shelton said the alternative work site means Cooper is currently not working at Northeast High School where he’s also a physical education teacher. Cooper has been the boys’ basketball coach at Northeast since the late 1990s. In the past five seasons Cooper coached Northeast to a pair of appearances in the state basketball tournament.

Natalie Hall, Public Information Officer for the Clarksville Police Department, confirmed an investigation is ongoing, but didn’t provide any further details.

Police and school officials have not provided details on the nature of the investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Cooper’s brother, Andrew Cooper, is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of his ex-wife, Pamela Cooper, in 2007.

Andrew Cooper coached basketball at Northwest High School and Pamela Cooper was the assistant principal at Kenwood High School.
