Third suspect arrested in ‘disappearance and believed death’ of Justin Sawyer: Three men wanted in what authorities are now calling the “disappearance and believed death” of a missing Clarksville man have been arrested. Kentucky State Police has been investigating the disappearance of Justin Tyler Sawyer, who was reported missing in Clarksville on Dec. 17. KSP has arrested three men on charges including robbery and kidnapping and abuse of a corpse. READ MORE

Greenway expanded with Red River Trail almost complete north of Riverwalk: Upcoming expansions to the Clarksville Greenway promise to make the city more pedestrian friendly, with the Red River Trail and the Austin Peay State University section almost finished. Together, the main Greenway sections, including the downtown Riverwalk, make up 7.5 miles of trail for walking, running and cycling, and a connection between them will make the Greenway an uninterrupted 9 miles long. READ MORE

Ed Bruce, writer of ‘Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to be Cowboys,’ dies in Clarksville: Ed Bruce, a country music songwriter renowned for writing chart-topping hits such as “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” died in Clarksville on Friday, Jan. 8, at the age of 81. Bruce wrote several other hits, including “The Man That Turned My Mama On” for Tanya Tucker and “You’re the Best Break This Old Heart Ever Had” featuring Lynn Anderson. READ MORE

Montgomery County ranks worst in state for COVID-19 vaccination at only 1.5%: Tennessee Health Department data shows Montgomery is the least vaccinated county in the state, with only 1.5 percent of the population having received the first dose of the vaccine. Other nearby counties are reaching well into the 2% to 3% margins. Director of Health Joey Smith said it’s because we have a low number of people in the initial vaccination phase, and we aren’t on the distressed county list. READ MORE

Clarksville Black Lives Matter leader loses job, losing home: Activist Maurice Stegall has served Clarksville by giving away food, Christmas trees and his time to build a community of love and understanding. Now, he is being evicted, is on the verge of homelessness and is reaching out for help. Stegall was told on Jan. 11 that he had a week to vacate his home, displacing his five children who live with him, as well as his pregnant girlfriend and a disabled adult. READ MORE

Man dropped off on I-24 by Greyhound bus killed when hit by semi in Montgomery County: A man was hit and killed by a semi-truck in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 on Sunday, Jan. 10, in Montgomery County. He had been riding on a Greyhound bus to Kansas City when he asked to be dropped off on the side of the interstate. Greyhound told Clarksville Now that they do let people off on the side of the interstate if the person insists. READ MORE

Woman’s 2014 murder conviction in beating death of toddler overturned, sent back for new trial: On Feb. 7, 2009, Keegan Metz, 23 months old, died from multiple blunt force trauma injuries. His parents, former soldier Joshua Starner and ex-wife Caitlyn Metz, were found guilty of murder and each was sentenced to life in prison. The Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals has found that Metz was “denied the effective assistance of counsel.” READ MORE
