MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Tenn. – Montgomery County Animal Control recently announced a job opening for an Animal Control Officer. The following is a description of the position, qualifications, and a link to apply:

QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma (or GED) required with six months to one year animal control experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess a valid Tennessee driver’s license and be euthanasia certified. Must successfully pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen and background check.

SALARY: $14.39

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Responsibilities include patrolling designated areas and responding to dispatched assignments to enforce animal control laws and ordinances regulating the possession, humane treatment, handling, confinement, transportation, use and disposal of animals.
• Work involves capturing, confining, and euthanizing stray, diseased, and dangerous animals.
• Prepares written citations and makes court appearances as needed.
• Responsible for maintaining the animal shelter in a clean, safe condition and provides custodial care for impounded animals.
• Assists in the adoption and reclaiming of animals by citizens.
• Receives checks and cash for adoptions and reclaims. Prepares adoption and reclaim forms.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions; animal feces and urine; fumes from cleaning products; and exposure to parasites [fleas, ticks, mites]. Works in office conditions and the animal kennel; regularly exposed to odors of animals; noise of the impounded animals; disease communicated by animals; and to the risk of being bitten by animals. This position may require work on some Saturdays during peak periods, vacation times, or times of staff illness.
