We sat down with India Earheart, who has spent over 10 years with the local Clarksville jewelry store.
What is your favorite thing about working at McKenzie and Smiley Jewelers?
Norris and Brian Smiley have created a space where we (staff) can truly love what we do. Charles, Haley, and I have been on staff over 10 years. Brian has worked alongside Norris for 19 years. We’re committed to each other and committed to our customers.
What is your favorite thing about the jewelry business?
Jewelry is so incredibly sentimental. It touches people and relationships in both expected and unexpected ways. We feel fortunate to be a part of the joys, legacies, and even heartbreaks that come through our doors on a daily basis. My favorite sight is watching a couple we’ve worked with through dating, engagement and marriage, stopping in to show us their new baby! Or, presenting a piece of lovingly worn jewelry we have revived or reworked, a piece which already has a story, on to a family member to continue creating that story.
What is your best piece of advice for brides?
Get ready to enjoy your wedding, and let us worry about getting your wedding bands just right and on time! I always suggest the bride and groom start the process of choosing the perfect bands 6-8 weeks before the wedding date. This allows for anything from ready-to-wear bands, to complete custom creations. That being said, we have hundreds of designs that can be sized and ready to go in under a week. When the bride picks up her band we’d love to be sure her engagement ring is also shining spectacularly and photo ready!

Favorite part of a wedding?
The exchanging of vows gets me every time. This is probably why I feel like it’s such a gift to be a part of creating engagements and changing lives. After that, it would have to be the cake!
What sets you apart from others in your industry?
A family owned and operated business is truly different from any other of its kind. We feel like a part of the fabric of Clarksville. So many of our customers have 10, 20, and 30-year roots with our store and with a few of our employees, including myself, who have been with Mckenzie & Smiley Jewelers for a decade or longer! Because of our long-standing commitment to our local and military families, the quality of our jewelry, repair work, and the overall experience customers can expect at our store is continuously spread through word-of-mouth. It’s so rewarding to see new faces mixed in with those who’ve become a real part of our store family over the years.
