CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A man shot himself during a police negotiation Monday night at an apartment complex near Exit 4.

At about 5:52 p.m., Clarksville Police responded to a report of an armed man experiencing a mental health crisis at an apartment in the 100 block of Westfield Court, according to CPD spokesman Scott Beaubien.

A man with a firearm had made suicidal statements. A police perimeter was established, and negotiators tried to establish communication.

At about 6:16 p.m., while negotiations were ongoing, officers heard a gunshot. The man was located on the apartment’s patio with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Officers and medical personnel immediately rendered aid until EMS arrived. The man was transported to Vanderbilt Clarksville, and his status was unknown as of 8:30 p.m.

“There is no ongoing threat to the public,” Beaubien said. “No officers, family members, or bystanders were injured during this incident.”
