CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Luther Hutchenson has announced his candidacy for the Montgomery County Commission, District 11.

Hutchenson is a Clarksville native and 1991 graduate of Northwest High School. He has over 20 years of experience in child welfare and six years of experience in education at Genesis Teen Learning Center, a private alternative school and day treatment program that serves court-ordered youth.

He has actively served the community, with those efforts significantly increasing since 2019 upon becoming a member and now the head of Hasan Temple No. 150, a Constituent Temple of AEAONMS, Inc. of Prince Hall Shriners. The organization contributes hundreds of hours of mentorship and community service on a monthly basis. Some of their regular activities include serving hot meals at the local soup kitchen; volunteering at the local veterans home; managing and funding an annual scholarship fund; organizing monthly diabetes charity walks to promote awareness, prevention and physical activity; assisting in organizing and managing the newly launched Harriet’s Army Mentoring Program; engaging in increased civic participation with continued nonpartisan voters registration; and offering education and resource linkage for veterans through their Military and Veterans Affairs Initiative.

Hutchenson said he is running for the County Commission to build public trust and contribute to crafting a county government that consistently is progressive, efficient, effective and responsive to the people.

He said he plans to work toward more positive and productive outcomes for youth and families; prioritize neighborhood safety to include enhanced street lighting and improved walking infrastructure on certain streets like Garrettsburg Road, Evans Road and Liberty Parkway, particularly if students are expected to walk to school on these unsafe roads; and promote fiscal accountability through informed and vigilant planning and management of public funds, with trust and transparency.
