CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Montgomery County Veterans Coalition remains an active force in the community as it supports the various agencies and organizations that support veterans and active duty soldiers.
The organization held its monthly meeting September 21 at the Montgomery County Veterans Plaza. Guest organization for the month was Operation Restored Warrior. ORW is a faith based organization that brings together mission, healing, and ministry through a five day program called the Drop Zone.
Founded in 2008, this program has helped service members from all branches of the military “experience the freedom, restoration and healing their hearts and lives have longed for and so desperately needed.” Presenter Command Sergeant Major Chris Fields, US Army (Ret) gave his own story as to how the program affected his life and the lives of his family in a positive manner. The home base for the program is Colorado Springs, Co. There is no cost to attend the program but attendees are required to provide their own transportation to the venue. The Coalition discussions included how to best reach caregivers to ensure they have the resources they need.
Another topic addressed was adding a donation box at the monthly meeting to accept items for hygiene bags such as shampoos and lotions. The Coalition will collect these items and donations will be made to the various Coalition members.
Due to the growth of the Coalition and the amount of information put out at each meeting, it was decided to have a quarterly evening meeting that was strictly used as a networking event.
