CLARKSVILLE, Tenn (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Several young athletes will travel to Greensboro, North Carolina for the 53rd annual Amateur Athletic Union Junior Olympic Games. Members of the Clarksville All-Stars Track and Field team will compete in hopes of bringing the gold home to Clarksville.

The Clarksville All-Stars began in 2008 as a non-profit group that promotes discipline, integrity and team building skills trough the sport of track and field. The team accepts children ages 8-18 and compete in AAU events, including the Junior Olympics.

This year’s Junior Olympics are expected to draw as many as 16,000 athletes. Approximately 10,000 of these will compete in the Track and Field Championships. The event will run from July 24 to August 3. Eight members of the Clarksville All-Stars will compete in a variety of events.

Meet Clarksville’s Junior Olympians:


Aiden Raine will compete in the decathlon for 15-16 year old boys and the 400 meter hurdles.


Marnesia Sumler is competing in the heptathlon for 15-16 year old girls


Troy Jackson will be competing in the pentathlon for 11-12 year old boys, as well as the 800 meter run


Jenesis Jefferson will compete in the 1500 meter racewalk


D’Quan Eyiowuawi is competing in the 200 meter steeplechase


Jacobi James will compete in the 800 meter run finals, the long jump for 10 year old boys, and the 400 meter dash for 10 year old boys.


Malaysia Phillips will compete in the shot put for boys and girls eight years old and up.


Amani Ellis will compete in the javelin throw for 15-16 year old girls.

The All-Stars will hold their annual meet in Clarksville on Saturday, July 20, at Kenwood High School’s football field. The event begins at 6 a.m. and is open to the public.
