One lane was blocked on Interstate 24 Tuesday morning due to a giant boulder blocking the roadway.

WKRN News 2 reports that the incident occurred at 8:30 a.m. near mile marker 42, just before the Briley Parkway entrance on I-24 east.

Crews responded to the scene with a front end loader and pushed the boulder off the interstate.

A geologist is expected to inspect the boulder sometime Tuesday to determine where it came from and check the stability of other rocks in the area.

Eastbound traffic was affected with the right lane blocked until 10:15 a.m.
