CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University softball has announced the signing of pitcher/first baseman Autumn Hanners, a standout player from the 2014s National Junior College Athletic Association’s championship tournament runner-up College of Central Florida.
A 5-foot-8, right-handed pitcher/hitter from Orlando, Fla., is currently a sophomore for the No. 2 nationally-ranked Patriots (49-7) and will have two-years of eligibility left for the Lady Govs.
As of April 16, Hanners had authored a 19-5 overall 2014-15 win-loss mark and a 1.97 ERA, with 108 strikeouts in 142 innings of work. She also has a save and two shutouts while tossing 14 complete games.
Offensively, Hanners is batting at a .354 clip, with 10 doubles, two triples and 13 home runs. She had driven in 48 and scored 32 runs, with .762 slugging and .491 on-base percentages.
As a freshman, Hanners was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament team, capturing three victories on the mound at the national tournament, as well as first-team Mid-Florida All-Conference and Florida College System Activities Association second-team All-State.
Hanners spilt time both as a starter and a reliever during her freshman campaign, finishing with an 8-5 win-loss mark, with eight saves and three shutouts along with a 1.56 ERA, striking out 81 in 126 innings.
At the plate, she batted .326, including 15 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs, while driving in 47 and scoring 30 runs for a squad that went 48-15.
Prior to the College of Central Florida, Hanners prepped at Lake Howell High School, where she earned first-team Class 7A All-State honors as a senior and first-team All-Seminole County after finishing with a 19-5 record and a 2.15 ERA and 157 strikeouts in 153.3 innings pitched while hitting .451 with six homers and 35 RBI.
For her career, Hanners finished with a 45-19 record for the Silver Hawks, with 453 strikeouts in 418 2/3 innings. At the plate, Hanners had a .381 batting average, with nine home runs.
Hanners joins Kendall Vedder (middle infielder) Palmetto, Fla., Carly Mattson (catcher/shortstop) McHenry, Ill., and Brea Dickson (second baseman) Social Circle, Ga., who signed with Austin Peay during the NCAA 2014 fall period.
