CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kirkwood High School wrestler Janiya Johnson won the 155-pound National Championship at USA Wrestling Nationals on Monday. This is the second year in a row that Johnson has won the 155-pound division.
“Coming in as a returning champ was a little scary,” Johnson told Clarksville Now. “There’s pressure, expectations, and the fear of not living up to what I’ve already accomplished. But walking away with a second title feels amazing.”

Johnson has continued to dominate at every level she has competed at, both at Kirkwood High and on the national stage. Entering her junior year, Johnson is determined to continue to build up the awards, accolades, and, most importantly, wins.
“I proved to myself and anyone who doubted me that I could do it again,” said Johnson. “I’m so thankful for everyone who helped me get there, my parents, Coach Sammy, Coach Joye, and Brock, who were in my corner this weekend doing everything they could to support me.”
