CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The West Willson Lady Warriors traveled to Kirkwood Middle School for a win-or-go-home matchup with the Cobras on Thursday. The Warriors led from the opening tip and won 49-36 to advance to the region title game on Saturday, ultimately ending Kirkwood’s season.

The Warriors found an offensive rhythm early, as they started the game on an 8-0 run to set the tone. West Wilson guard Alexa Bullard had 15 points at halftime, outscoring the Cobras herself in the first half as her team led 26-13.

“Give credit to them, they were on tonight,” said Kirkwood head coach Kylie McWhirter. “They’ve gotten to practice and play more than we have, and it showed. Even with how little preparation they had, my girls came out and battled, and that’s all you can ask for. They just ended up playing a little better, and that happens sometimes.”

Kirkwood guard Kyra Benson had a phenomenal scoring night with her season on the line, scoring 19 points, including five made threes. Unfortunately, on the other side, Bullard continued her prolific scoring outburst to finish the game with 26 points, and West Wilson secured the win in the end. Despite the Loss, McWhirter could not be more proud of her team.

“I’m just so proud of the effort the girls showed out there tonight,” McWhirter told Clarksville Now. “The West Wilson coach even came and told them the fact that you haven’t been able to get in a gym and played like that, that deserves kudos.

“For the eighth graders going on to high school, I want them to know that my door is always open, and I’ll always be there for them. For the ones that are staying, we’ve seen it, we know what it will take to win, so we can get ready for next year.”
