CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Kenwood High sophomore guard Sy’Nya Seay has been named Clarksville Now Player of the Week following her performance in the Knights double-overtime win over rival West Creek High.

Seay was instrumental in the Knights one point win against the Coyotes, as she accumulated 37 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. Seay stepped up when some of her other teammates fouled out and powered the Knights down the stretch of the game.  Seay has played a key role for Kenwood all season, as she is averaging 10.3 points per game.

Kenwood defeated West Creek in double overtime on January 31 (Knox Rives)

“Seay is a humble, coachable player. From her freshman year to now, she’s been an asset to our team,” said Kenwood High head coach Jemiah Harrison. “Despite being just a sophomore, her leadership is unparalleled. Her performance last week perfectly exemplifies the power of consistent hard work. Seay stepped up when we needed her most and took charge.

“When I looked at her and said, ‘I need you to go,’ she did exactly that. She’s the type of player every coach wants—someone you can turn to in critical moments and know they’ll deliver, players who play through the pain and the struggles. Those are the players who make teams thrive, she had her team on her side the whole way through and they put her in a position to be successful. She took the opportunity and ran with.”

“Earning Clarksville Now Player of the Week is a huge honor, especially after a tough double-overtime game on Friday night,” Seay told Clarksville Now.  “I was focused from the beginning, and my teammates played hard, putting me in great positions to succeed. Scoring 37 points felt amazing, but overcoming the challenge of double OT and getting the win was the highlight. I just stuck to my game, stayed confident, and fed off my team’s energy. Basketball is a team sport; none of this would have been possible without my teammates and coaches.”
