CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) –Kenwood High School senior forward Yazmine Pearson has been named the Clarksville Now Player of the Week following her dominant performance in the paint during the week of January 13. During that timeframe, the Lady Knights picked up a key district win over West Creek, and Pearson surpassed 1,000-career points.

“Over the past three years, Yazmine Pearson has grown into an unstoppable force on the court,” said Kenwood head coach Jemiah Harrison. “When I first started coaching her, I saw potential, but the player she has become today is a true testament to her dedication, growth and love for the game. Her journey has been one of hard work and watching her grow into a dominant player has been one of the most rewarding experiences as a coach.”

Pearson averaged 23.5 points and 17 rebounds per game last week, which included her dropping 32 points and 21 rebounds against West Creek High. Her ability to step up in the clutch earned Kenwood their first district win on the year against the Coyotes. The Lady Knights have been a steadily improving squad and look to keep building momentum as postseason play rapidly approaches.

“Playing basketball has been an incredible journey for me,” Pearson told Clarksville Now. “As my first time winning this award, it means a lot as a senior. I love the team that I’m surrounded by, my teammates and coaches who have become like family to. Our coaches have been instrumental in my growth not just as a player, but as a person and I cannot thank them enough for that. I would not be in the position without them and Coach Harrison.”
