Kathleen Mildred Garcia, age 85, passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021, at her home in Clarksville TN.
Kathleen was born at home on a farm in Short Creek outside of Caneyville, Ky Oct. 4, 1935. After graduating from Caneyville HS she moved to Louisville for her first job at the Courier-Journal as a secretary. She enjoyed living there and married her husband of 52 years, SGM Joseph A. Garcia (1933-2008). Five sons soon followed as they led the nomadic life of a military family across the US and Europe.
Kathleen was quietly strong, unflinching, and always loving as a wife and mother. She truly was the proverbial “woman behind the man” as the family moved into the world. Not to be outdone she had her own successful career. The Superior Civilian Service Award for 35 years of work with Defense Finance and Acct. and Ft. Campbell MWR is one of many. Her real pride though came from her personal drive to keep up with technology. Taking work-related computer courses and others at APSU she was always at the forefront. All the while she knitted, quilted, traveled and provided the center of the world for her family.
Kathleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, SGM (R) Joseph A. Garcia, and son Joseph. Surviving her are sons, Alan Craig Garcia (Jan), Steve Wayne Garcia, David Kenneth Garcia (Kathy), and Michael Kevin Garcia, Sr. (Kathy); siblings, Eddie Butler, Raymond Butler, and Elsie Davenport. She was the loving grandmother of Samantha Kathleen Garcia, Michael Kevin Garcia, Jr., Avery Scott Davis, and Jackson David Davis.
Kathleen’s family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home Monday, February 8, 2021. A service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. She will be laid to rest along with her husband following the committal ceremony.
