James Roger Mooney, age 77, of Clarksville, died Tuesday, January 7, 2014, at his home. He was born in Greene County, Iowa, to the late Roger Ivan Mooney and Maybelle Martin Mooney. James was also preceded in death by one brother and six sisters.
Mr. Mooney had 27 years of Military service. He was a highly decorated Vietnam Veteran, serving two tours of duty at Fort Campbell, KY, before retiring as Post Sgt. Major at Ft. Ben Harrison, IN.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, January 10 at the chapel of Neal-Tarpley-Parchman Funeral Home, with Rev. Byron Dumas officiating. Interment will follow at noon, at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery – West, in Hopkinsville, KY. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Thursday, January 9, and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service Friday at the funeral home.
James is survived by his loving wife, Carolynn “Jodie” Jo Mooney; four daughters, Rita (Keith) Burkhart, of Clarksville, Lori Lander, of Clarksville, Rinnie (Brian) Gardipee, of New Palestine, IN, and Ronda (Jeff) Koory, of Clarksville; twelve grandchildren; and thirteen great grandchildren.
Military personnel will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to AseraCare Hospice, 1539-C Ashland City Road, Clarksville, TN 37040. The family wishes a special thanks to their guardian angels, Nurse Anita, aid Tina, and the rest of the staff at AseraCare.
