James (Jim) Morris Monday, age 87, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Tennova Medical Center.
James was born July 6, 1935, in Corbin, Kentucky, to the late Jake Monday and Martha Elizabeth Groves Monday. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lora Alice Steele Monday; two half-brothers and two half-sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Pulver Danner-Monday; a daughter, Cathy Diane (Ret. Major Mike Lerman) Monday Lerman; five step-children, Faith Danner Dillon, Shanna Danner (Stephan) Smith, Krystal Danner Whitwell, Jason Danner and Joseph (Angie) Danner; two grandchildren, Christy Laurelle (Joe) Hunter, Zachary James (Wyanetta) Lerman; four great-grandchildren, Cora Grace Hunter, Millie Rose Hunter, Lincoln Joseph Hunter, Grant Michael Hunter; four step-grandchildren, Anthony Danner, Jacob Smith, Amanda (Kirk) Danner and Joseph Whitwell; nieces, Barbara Steele Warren, Donna (Ron) Fonk and several other nieces and nephews.
Jim retired after 38 years from The Leaf-Chronicle, where he served as a staff writer and Religious News Editor. He continued writing the “Open Line” column, which was published for 51 years from Oct. 2, 1965, to June 19, 2016. He was a member of Discover Life Church.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in the Chapel of Neal Tarpley Parchman Funeral Home at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 24, 2023, with Rev. Betty Coghill, Rev. Jim Hefley, Rev. David Bandy and Rev. Daniel Ramsey officiating.
Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, June 23 and from 9 a.m. until the hour of service on Saturday.
