Irene Agosto-Alamo, age 86, of Clarksville, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at his home. He was born in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico to the late Juan Agosto-Báez and Rosa Alamo-Agosto. Irene was also preceded in death by his wife, Emilia Rosa, six brothers, and seven sisters.
Irene retired after approximately 30 years in the US Army, having attained the rank of CSM, the highest of the enlisted ranks. He received numerous recognitions, including the Combat Infantryman Badge, three Purple Heart Medals, the Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with two campaign stars, Korean Service Medal, with three campaign stars, and Bronze Star Medal.
Irene was a member of New Providence United Methodist Church, and the Masonic Lodge. He had a very giving heart, continuously giving to those in need. After retiring from the US Army, he began taking welding and construction classes at Austin Peay State University.
A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, February 3 at New Providence United Methodist Church, with Rev. B.J. Brack officiating. Burial will follow, at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the church.
Military personnel will serve as Pallbearers.
Irene is survived by his son, Robert Agosto and spouse Dianne; two daughters, Rosa Agosto, and Sandra Fusco and spouse Bob, all of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Nivia Powell, Miguel Orengo, Carrie Swan, and Christina Tavarez; and eight great grandchildren.
