CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Ever since the Downtown Commons was proposed, speculation and hopes for the old Federal Building across the street have circulated.
And now the future is clear: The historic former U.S. Post Office and Federal Building, purchased last year by Wes Cunningham, will become The Mailroom restaurant, with a planned opening this summer, according to a news release from the owners.

The Cunningham family opened the nearby Strawberry Alley Ale Works in 2018 and Old Glory Distilling Co. in 2017. For The Mailroom, the Cunninghams have teamed up with Chattanooga-based restaurant consulting group SquareOne to bring the concept to life, according to the news release.
“We are excited to bring life and energy back to this historic building that was once the hub of communication for all of Clarksville,” Wes Cunningham said in the release. “The Mailroom will preserve and showcase that unique history while providing an upbeat, one-of-a-kind experience right in the heart of downtown.”
A main feature of The Mailroom will be a large bar extending from the main dining room inside to an extensive patio outside that will provide seating for an additional 140 guests. The patio is partially enclosed and will feature fire pits and other casual seating for year-round service, the release said.

The open kitchen concept will feature a wood-fired grill and an always-made-from-scratch menu. The menu will have American dishes alongside more items with a Korean and South American influence.
The highlight of the bar menu will be hand-crafted draft cocktails made with the freshest ingredients, such as on-site expelled sugar cane.
