Montgomery Central cruises over Sycamore 35-14

CUNNINGHAM, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery Central football came out swinging Friday in its season opener, as the Indians put up 21 points in the first quarter en route to a 35-14 victory at home over Sycamore.

Kaleb Lane put the Indians on the board first with a nine-yard rushing touchdown.

After Sycamore put the ball on the deck, Kael Davis recovered and took it the distance for a 36-yard touchdown.

Indian quarterback Logan Sykes threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Timmy Campbell to make it 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Michael Peyton punched it in from a yard out in the second quarter, giving Montgomery Central a commanding 28-0 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, Lakendriez Sanders got in on the Indian scoring barrage with a 1-yard rushing touchdown to make it 35-0.

The War Eagles recorded two third-quarter touchdowns, but by then the game was virtually out of reach for Sycamore.

The Indians (1-0) host West Creek (1-0) Friday Aug. 30 on the hill.

West Creek trails early, bounces back for 27-19 win in opener

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – West Creek football got off to a bit of a slow start Friday during their home opener against Greenbrier, but rebounded in large part to a strong second half to defeat the Bobcats 27-19.

Yahsir Thomas had a big day on the ground for the Coyotes, averaging nearly 8.5 yards per carry.

West Creek’s DeAndrea Frazer had an 85-yard kickoff return in the third quarter to tie the score at 13-13.

West Creek came away with points every time they were deep in Bobcat territory, converting on all three of their red-zone scoring opportunities.

Coyote senior Walter Batey led the charge on defense for West Creek with a team-high 11 tackles.

Next up for the Coyotes (1-0) is a trip to Montgomery Central (1-0) as they take on the Indians Friday Aug. 30.

Early deficit plagues Knights in Greer’s first game

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Kenwood football fell behind two scores quickly Friday at home, but battled back despite facing an early deficit.

Knights quarterback Jaylen Washington threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Smith to cut the Hoptown lead to 14-7 with six minutes left to play in the first half.

After the Tigers rattled off 14 more unanswered points, Kenwood’s Kavarius Moody showed off his explosiveness, taking the Washington pass the distance for a 69-yard touchdown.

With five minutes remaining in the contest, Zyon Moore ran it in from four yards out for Kenwood’s third score of the game.

The Knights (0-1) will look to rebound as they travel to take on Oakland Friday Aug. 30.
