CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The Montgomery County primary for mayor, sheriff, the entire County Commission and part of the School Board is coming up in May, and Thursday was the cutoff for candidates to qualify. The list has narrowed – with about a half-dozen candidates either backing off or failing to qualify since the last update.

Here is the list of candidates as of Feb. 19, with party affiliation, incumbent status and whether they’re running unopposed. While no more can jump in, some candidates could still drop out – the withdrawal deadline is Feb. 26.

What happens next in Montgomery County elections?

The Montgomery County Republican and Democratic Party primary elections will be May 5. The winners of the party primaries will run against each other, along with any independent candidates, in the county general election on Aug. 6. The voter registration deadline is April 6. Early voting will be April 15-30.

Aug. 6 election: In addition to Aug. 6 being the county general election, it will also be the state primary, with governor, U.S. Senate, U.S. House and all three state House races on the ballot.

Nov. 3 election: In addition to Nov. 3 being the state general election, it will also be the City of Clarksville general election, with the mayor and half the City Council seats on the ballot.
