CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Tim Clifton has been fired from his position as Director of Montgomery County Animal Control, according to a termination letter signed by County Mayor Jim Durrett.

The letter states that Clifton was terminated due to “conduct unbecoming of a supervisor”, and four instances of such behavior were listed. His termination was effective immediately, as of Nov. 3.

The first instance referenced the last Animal Control Board meeting. When asked about a policy for rescuing agencies, the letter said Clifton replied, “There is probably one buried down there somewhere.”

The letter stated that Clifton called a board member and a volunteer ‘bat (expletive) crazy’ and ‘(expletive) house crazy’ on separate occasions.

The signed letter also said Clifton questioned a citizen about a private meeting with Mayor Durrett and “became irate with the citizen’s response.”

In a letter sent to County Commissioners Monday, Durrett named Rachel Torres as Interim Director until a replacement is named.

Clifton was named Director in August of 2012. Prior to his appointment he worked as a School Resource Officer.

A call to Clifton’s personal cell phone number revealed it had been disconnected.

The job opening has been posted on the county’s website.
