CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Austin Peay State University held a ribbon cutting Tuesday at the Pace Alumni Center to commemorate the opening of their campus Greenway extension, which connects APSU to Clarksville’s Greenway and Riverwalk.
The APSU Greenway was funded through a nearly $400,000 grant from the Clarksville-Montgomery County Community Health Foundation and represents a step forward in making Clarksville more walkable.
“The Greenway will truly be a valuable resource in many ways for future generations of Governors,” APSU President Michael Licari said during the ceremony.
Clarksville Mayor Joe Pitts announced that Clarksville Parks and Recreation would open another addition to the Greenway, Red River East trail, on April 24.
“This provides a vital link between the campus and downtown, to the northern part of our community, makes us walkable, healthier, progressive and environmentally responsible,” Pitts said. “There is no end in sight for what we are about to accomplish.”
Also planned is a new pedestrian bridge connecting the two portions of Clarksville’s Greenway system. This project is already fully funded through a $1.8 million grant from the TDOT’s Transportation Alternatives Project and is in the design phase of development.
