CLARKSVILLE, Tenn.- Seven students from Montgomery County Teen Learning Center proudly graduated on May 17, and participated in a ceremony to mark their achievements. These young people have faced many challenges on their way to earning their high school diploma.
Attending the ceremony was Tennessee State Representative Joe Pitts from Clarksville, who was impressed with the great accomplishments the ceremony represented for the students, families, and staff of Genesis Learning Centers.
While parents and teachers are always proud of their students when they graduate, students commencing from Genesis programs have overcome profound obstacles to reach the outstanding goals represented by these ceremonies. Executive Director Terry Adams notes the importance of these events:
“Graduation is a special time for our community of learners to celebrate our students and honor all they have achieved. It is our dedicated purpose that each of our students can know and demonstrate that they are able to learn new things; that they can control their own emotions and behaviors; and that each one of them is a positive, capable individual who has the potential to become a happy, successful family and community member.”
The Montgomery County Teen Learning Center is part of the Genesis Learning Centers, a provider of special education and alternative schools approved through the Tennessee Department of Education since 1984, meeting the needs of unique and exceptional students. Genesis is a non-profit and operates state-approved educational programs for grades K-12, as well as a homebound program, serving a total of approximately 233 children and teens daily. All students attending Genesis programs are referred by their local public school’s exceptional education department and every student has an Individual Education Program (I.E.P.).
The guiding philosophy of the teachers, staff and administration of the Montgomery County Teen Learning Center is that all children should be safe, able to learn, and be successful. Adams notes that being the parent of a child with special or unique needs and difficulties is not easy; therefore, the Center works closely with families to meet these goals. Graduation is a time when dreams come to fruition, with parents excited to attend graduation ceremonies that mark their child’s accomplishments.
The MCTLC is located at 1881-D Fort Campbell Drive in Clarksville and serves 24 students from grades 7 to 12.
