FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) There is somewhat of a little-known facility at Fort Campbell that is looking to make their presence more well known in the community: The Fort Campbell Stray Animal Facility on post.

Recently ClarksvilleNow sat down with Lauren Anderson, Contract Manager, and Kristen Tuberville, Assistant Contract Manager, for the facility to help get the word out about finding good homes for dogs and cats on Fort Campbell as well as in the surrounding communities.

Anderson said their main goal is to find wonderful homes for the animals.

“We take them in, we care for them, first and foremost we try to find their owner to get all the animals reunited. Animals that don’t get reunited we put up for adoption,” she said.

Anderson added that they are working hard to get the word out that they are looking for people to come in and adopt pets and the facility is not just for military and people living on Fort Campbell. Anyone can visit the facility and fill out an application to adopt a pet.

It is required for anyone going on post to go to the visitor center at either Gate 4 or Gate 7 and provide a valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance. They will then receive a pass to go to the facility located at building 5290 on 8th Street.

Tuberville said the fees to adopt an animal are $75 for dogs and $65 for cats, which includes up-to-date vaccinations. All animals that are adopted also get microchips.

Tuberville added that the fee does not include the animal getting spayed or neutered or getting their rabies vaccine, which has to be handled by a licensed vet. The facility does require a spay and neuter agreement as part of the adoption contract.

The facility is always looking for donations from the community. They are in need of wet or dry dog and cat food, treats, leashes, pet toys, as well as wire crates for transporting animals to their off-site adoption events which take place at least once a month at Pet Food Center at 2243 Lowes Dr. in Clarksville.

The next adoption events, called “A Home for the Holidays” are scheduled at the Pet Food Center on Saturday, December 9 and Saturday, December 23 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

You’ll find the Fort Campbell Stray Animal Facility at Bldg. 5290 on 8th St. on post. They are open Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Find them on Facebook or call 907-202-1036.
