CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Two active duty soldiers stationed at Fort Campbell recently opened a new business in Clarksville.
Kevin Bell and Ja’Byron Washington are the entrepreneurs behind Air Assault Junk Removal LLC, created to meet the overlooked needs of many military families.
“We first noticed the need for junk removal when many of the military families living on post could not find a junk removal service they could trust. We understood their concerns and opened the business to make the transition of military families to and from Fort Campbell less of a chore by providing quality junk removal services,” Bell said.
The Air Assault Junk Removal LLC offers residential and commercial services which include but are not limited to the removal of appliances, furniture, paint, scrap metals, auto parts, debris, flooring, and property/storage clean-outs.
Owners Bell and Washington wanted some guidance as they embarked on their small business venture, so they reached out to the Tennessee Small Business Development Center.
“We reached out to the small business center because we didn’t know many details about being a small business owner or which route would be most beneficial to start up our small business. The center provided us with vital information on being successful small business owners as well as offering much knowledgeable advise on the topic,” Washington said.
This new venture reflects the rise of active military and veteran-owned businesses in the country.
According to the US Census in 2007, 9 percent of all U.S. firms were veteran-owned. In 2014, the National Veteran Small Business organization reported that veteran-owned businesses employed 1.8 million Americans and generated over $1.6 trillion dollars in annual revenue.
