CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Clarksville-Montgomery County officials have asked the public to pause donating food to local shelters in fear of wasting any donations, according to county spokesperson Michelle Newell in a news release.
The news release said, “Business and individuals throughout the community have been bringing meals to those impacted by the tornado, to volunteers and to public safety workers…What we are asking at this time is to pause on bringing food, because food may be wasted.”
In addition to the overflow of donated food, it’s been confirmed World Central Kitchen has been hired to “canvass neighborhoods and assess where the areas of need are, including residents who are homebound for meals and other services.” The news release described the company as being the “special forces” of feeding communities thousands of meals.
World Central Kitchen has been based out of the Northeast High Multiagency Disaster Relief Center since Sunday, Dec. 10.
