CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – The first-ever Montgomery County All-Star High School Games were held Saturday at Kenwood High School.
Student-athletes from around Clarksville came together to participate in the games. The event included a 3-point contest, dunk contest, girls’ all-star game and boys’ all-star game.

The first event was the 3-point competition. Each contestant participating had 30 seconds to make as many 3-pointers as they could off of 5 ball racks.
Participants were put into two groupings, boy and girl. There were 11 players for round one, but only six could advance into the quarterfinals.
Shakiah Vance (CHS), DaMonei Peterson (NEHS), Brystal Calhoun (CHS) and Jaida Brooks (NWHS) advanced in the girls’ bracket. Meanwhile, Giovanni Hernandez (KHS), Ahmad Harvey (NWHS) and CJ Middleton (NWHS) advanced for the boys.
When it was all said and done, Peterson and Harvey were the victors in the two brackets, but there could only be one champion. The two sides went head-to-head, and Peterson came away with the trophy after outscoring her opponent by 2 points.
Dunk contest
Following the 3-point contest, high-flyers from around the county were called to the court for the dunk contest.
Players were scored by a panel of five judges based off of the style and accuracy of their dunks. The highest score a dunk could receive was a 50 while 25 was the lowest.
Here’s who competed in the opening round of the competition: Chance Austin (NEHS), Marquis Crutcher (MCHS), Jarohn Johnson (CA), Tacarey Monday (NWHS), Sheldon Huber (CHS) and Jakoby Cox (KWHS).
While the creativity was there for each contestant, Monday stole the show. The Northwest junior guard scored 149 out of the 150 possible points, including a perfect score in rounds two and three to seal his victory.
All-star games
The girls’ all-star game had two teams playing 7 on 7: Team Jaliyah and Team Grace.
Defense was the name of the game early on. However, when shots began falling for each side, offense took over the ball game. Team Jaliyah was able to outscore their matchup in the end and won 74-62.

Event comments
Ed Wilkins said the event has been in the planning for several months. “The idea has been to get the all-star players from each selected sport, and the first one happened to be basketball. We gave the student-athletes the opportunity to play amongst one another and appreciate each other’s game while the whole city has the chance to come out.
“This event is something I wish was around when I was playing high school sports. It’s a unique opportunity to see who the best of the best is in the city. The overall idea is for each sport to build a player profile and send that information to colleges across the country,” said Wilkins.
“As times goes by, we’ll be reaching out to Montgomery County coaches to continue to build these all-star rosters. We also want everyone to feel included during this process too.”
