Update, 4 p.m.: It appears as though the field fire was started by a passing train and its sparks, according to Clarksville Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Michael Rios.

“There was a 20-foot area around the train tracks, and that most likely it looked like a train came through and shot a spark out, and then from there the wind picked up,” Rios said.

The Clarksville Fire incident commander told Rios that initially, the fire was moving through the field at about 10 feet per second. He added that Tuesday’s rain assisted in putting out the flames, and it’s unknown how many acres were burned.

Rios confirmed that the fire is now contained, and that Montgomery County Fire Service provided brush trucks to help put out the flames.

Update, 3:48 p.m.: The fire, located at Ted Crozier Boulevard and Dunlop Lane, has mostly been put out, and firefighters are now just cooling the embers. The flames took over about 60% of the field.

Twelve Clarksville Fire Rescue units responded, with help from the Montgomery County Fire Service.
