Fifth fatal day for COVID-19 in Montgomery County, death toll rises to 24

Montgomery County officials reported another COVID-19 fatality late Saturday afternoon, the eighth death reported this week.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Montgomery County officials reported another COVID-19 fatality late Saturday afternoon, the eighth death reported this week.

The local total deaths toll is now at 24.

Two deaths were reported on Tuesday, and another three deaths on Wednesday. One death was reported Thursday and another on Friday.

Joey Smith, Montgomery County Health Department director, said Wednesday that all of the deaths locally have been in “vulnerable populations,” which is in close alignment with the rest of the deaths in Tennessee.

Locally, two-thirds of those who have died have been over the age of 71, he said.

Here are the rest of the local statistics as of Saturday at 2 p.m.:

  • 2,248 lab confirmed and 46 probable cases for a total of 2,294 since March 6
  • 17 new cases today out of 438 new test results
  • 24 total deaths
  • 247 total school-age cases (5-18)
  • 51 school age cases (last 14 days)
  • 0 new hospitalizations (residence correction)
  • 98 total hospitalizations
  • 29,100 total negative lab results

Because of a problem at the state level with the data, active cases aren’t currently reliable. Smith said he’s working with the state to sort out the issue.
