ROBERTSON COUNTY, Tenn. – A Robertson County family is looking for a U.S. Army veteran who stopped and picked up a flag that had blown over in their field.
WKRN News 2 reports that the veteran picked up the flag, folded it military style, and replaced it with a brand-new flag. He also left a note explaining he saw the flag on the ground and that he hoped the owner would retire “her” properly.
The note was signed Sergeant Larew.
News 2 said the fallen flag was flown on a farm owned by Theo Dickinson, a world-class horse jockey from the 1930s, who was also a World War II veteran.
The family told News 2 that Dickinson was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and received the Purple Heart. His injuries ended his horse racing career, but he went on to run a successful horse farm with his brother George.
Dickinson died in 2006 and the farm is now maintained by his nephew Don Sargent Sr.
Sargent is now trying to find the veteran to say thank you and to also tell him about his uncle’s story.
It is likely the veteran works or lives in the Adams area.
