CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Eric Claunch, the City Council member for north Clarksville’s Ward 2, in the Northwest High School area, is running for election to the seat.
He was selected in a special session in late February to replace Deanna McLaughlin, former Ward 2 City Council member, after she accepted a position with Congressman Matt Van Epps.
Claunch is a retired warrant officer with four combat deployments. He said he spent many years in a variety of locations within the United States and abroad. He has a master’s degree in organizational management. He said he is a “proud girl dad,” sharing custody with his daughter’s mother, who also lives in Clarksville.
Claunch said he is running on three “tenants of focus”:
- All our children in every facet of their lives.
- Growth and infrastructure, creating opportunities specifically in north Clarksville, a “largely disenfranchised” community. “I have slowed development down significantly ensuring we are looking at housing ‘differently’ while addressing the antiquated infrastructure,” Claunch said.
- Fiscal responsibility. Claunch said that in the last budget cycle, he fought to reduce the property tax increase for all six rounds of voting, and he created real conversations with the mayor and department heads about “needs vs. wants.”
