CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – (CLARKSVILLENOW) It was a very emotional time at Fortera Stadium Sunday for players, coaches and supporters of APSU Governors football after the announcement that the team was not selected for the playoffs. There were tears, hugs of support going around the room, and many sad faces when the team found out they wouldn’t be going to the NCAA FCS playoffs. The team tied for the most wins in the football program’s history and won the most OVC games in school history.
APSU Head Football Coach Will Healy talked about the NCAA decision. “After what these kids did this year is to me the story of college football. I don’t have a regret, I thought we did exactly what we needed to do to get in. The Jacksonville State loss was the game that got us. You finish 7-1 in the conference, you win 8 out of 9 FCS games and you get left out,” Healy said.
Healy added that he was extremely disappointed and heartbroken for the players, praised the team for coming back from 0-11 last year and working harder than ever this season, and said no other team deserves to to continue to play football more than the Governors.
APSU Athletics Director Ryan Ivey echoed Healy’s comments. “I’m disappointed for our guys, disappointed for our seniors, disappointed for our coaching staff. I believe this team is a playoff team and I believe they are deserving of it,” Ivey said
