Clarksville, Tenn. – Distinguished Steppers Unlimited (DSU) of Clarksville recently trimmed a tree adorned in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness under the direction of Kleeman Community Center Director Tonya Wacker.
The group describes the tree as part of their “effort to make an impact on social development and health awareness in the community and to promote the art of dance as a wholesome and socially acceptable means of group fitness and entertainment.”
Community members can stop by and see the “Tree in Pink for Breast Cancer” at the Kleeman Community Center located at 166 Cunningham Lane. Individuals are encouraged to add their own pink ornaments and to trim trees in other visible areas in the Clarksville community using light blue for prostate cancer, gray for brain cancer, black for melanoma and gold for childhood cancer.
“As the fight against cancer goes on, we’d hope that perhaps our pink tree and others like it will remain through the holidays as a visual reminder of the courageous individuals who continue the fearless fight for their lives against this relentless disease that affects so many.”
DSU has received support from Ms. Wacker as well as Administration at Clarksville Parks & Recreation in offering similar free public programs.
The group also plans to continue its participation in the Montgomery County Relay for Life campaign to raise funds for the American Cancer Society.
