CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – Our healthcare nurses continue working hard every day serving on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
For National Nurses Week, Clarksvillenow.com recently spoke with one of those nurses, Debbie Payne, who is the in-patient educator for the nursing staff at Tennova Healthcare Clarksville.
Payne said there were two stories when it came to why she chose nursing as a profession. The first is she had fantastic nurses when she had her children and also when her grandfather passed away from cancer.
The second was an experience she had when she was young and needed emergency surgery and had what she described as a terrible nurse. Payne decided right then and there she wanted to become a nurse and laughing said she wanted to be better than that nurse.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, Payne said it has not changed things a great deal with her work. “It’s just being more protective and more aware of what is happening and how we protect ourselves and our patients. That’s the biggest change is just how awareness has heightened,” said Payne.
Payne had a message praising the nursing staff at Tennova saying they are doing a phenomenal job of keeping up with what’s happening and being available for their patients. She said she knows it’s a struggle for them and their families and we appreciate everything they do every day.
“I would also like to say thank you to everyone in the community of Clarksville that has donated, helped, made posters, all the things Clarksville has done as a community to help Tennova in this crisis,” Payne said.
