On Tuesday, May 18, 2021, Davis L. Potts went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 89.

Davis was born February 18, 1932 in Greenwood Springs, MS, the son of the late James and Bular Irvin Potts. Davis married the love of his life, Zelma Jean Clark Potts, on July 4, 1952 in Jeffersonville, Ind. Together they raised sons, Steve, Danny, Clark, and J.P. and a daughter, Melinda, while also fostering and caring for over 100 children in the community.

He was a veteran of the US Army and the Korean War, and later he and his wife, Zelma, would open their hearts and home to minister to service men and women. Davis went on to have a fruitful career in insurance sales and was a faithful member at The Community Church. There, he served as an elder and also served his community with a passion and spirit of Christian service.

Survivors include his children, Rev. Daniel R. Potts (Jo Ellen), Davis Clark Potts, J.P. Potts (Alandra) and Melinda Ross (Larry); 16 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Davis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Zelma Jean Potts; sons, Steve Potts, Phillip Wayne Potts, adopted son, Joshua Potts and grandson, John Ross.

His family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 21 at McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home and from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 22 at The Community Church. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, at The Community Church with Revs. Sam Hill, Danny R. Potts, Jerry Shelton and Larry Ross officiating.

He will be laid to rest with Army Honors at 10 a.m. Monday, May 24 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Serving as pallbearers are Nicholas Racca, John Gannaway, James Gannaway, Nathan Potts, Paul Potts and Lane Bumpus.
