CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – The Tennessee Department of Health recently released new statistics regarding victims of sexual assault in 2017.

The report shows that 191 cases of sexual assault were reported in Montgomery County in 2017.
Facts related to the Mid-Cumberland Region, which includes Montgomery County:
•14-17 years olds had the highest rate of sexual assault compared to other age groups
•Females were approximately seven times as likely as males to be sexually assaulted
•The sexual assault rate was higher among blacks than whites
•Within the Mid-Cumberland Region, assault rates ranged from 23.7 in Trousdale County to 197.6 in Dickson County.
The overall rate for the region was 77.3
•The most common types of sexual assault in the Mid-Cumberland Region were forcible fondling (45.9%) and
forcible rape (34.0%)
Statewide, there were 6,177 reported cases of sexual assault in 2017.

Other statewide findings include:
•Between 2013 and 2017, the sexual assault rate in TN increased from 94.9 to 101.0
•14-17 years olds had the highest rate of sexual assault compared to other age groups
•Females were approximately seven times as likely as males to be sexually assaulted
•The sexual assault rate was higher among blacks than whites
•Among Tennessee Health Department Regions, assault rates ranged from 58.3 in Northeast to 205.2 in Sullivan County. The overall rate for Tennessee was 101.0
•The most common types of sexual assault in Tennessee were forcible fondling (43.3%) and forcible rape (38.2%).
