CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (CLARKSVILLENOW) – According to The National Weather Service, Clarksville residents are under both an extreme heat advisory have the potential for severe thunderstorms beginning this evening.
Meteorologist Caroline MacDonald said the heat and humidity will increase across the region on Tuesday with afternoon highs reaching into the mid to upper 90’s and heat index values up to 105 this afternoon.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory, which is in effect until 7 p.m. These conditions could cause heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Extra precautions should be taken, especially with children, elderly, and pets.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Remember to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air conditioning when possible, and limit exposure to the sun. Be sure to check on relatives, neighbors, and the elderly. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles as car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
The National Weather Service has further reported that a cold front will cause severe storms from the Tennessee Valley to the Mid-Atlantic. These storms have the potential for damaging winds, heavy rain leading to localized flooding and potential for hail.
