CLARKSVILLE, TN − Now that the new, eight-story First Street Parking Garage is open with 587 spaces, the Cumberland Plaza Parking Garage next door will close for several months of repairs.

The older garage, fronting Second Street and directly across from the Montgomery County Courthouse, will close Monday, Jan. 6, and remain closed for about six months, said the City’s Municipal Properties Department in a news release.

The long-planned and needed repairs will include adding upgraded lighting throughout the structure, cleaning and re-striping all parking decks, storm drainage repairs, concrete and masonry repairs, caulk joint removal and repairs, and other secondary work, the release said.

Provisions will be made for pedestrian access from the First Street Parking Garage to Second Street and the courthouse. Access to handicapped parking will remain available from Second Street. The Clarksville Parking Commission’s pay machine on Second Street will remain accessible.

“The City of Clarksville appreciates the public’s patience while these necessary repairs are made to ensure a structurally sound and safe Cumberland Plaza Parking Garage well into the future,” the release said.
